Matching each bakery item to the right bag

Most bakeries need three or four bag types, not one. A baguette, a butter croissant and a bag of cookies each fail in the wrong bag.

Start with your best sellers. List them, note how oily or fragile each one is, and match a bag to the group.

The table below is the starting point our reps use when a new bakery calls.

Donuts are a special case because glaze sticks to almost anything. Our printed donut bags with lining are built for that problem.

Flat bags versus satchel bags

Flat bags are two panels glued at the sides. They are quick to grab, take up little shelf space and suit thin items like cookies or a single slice.

Satchel bags have a gusset and a square base. They stand up on the counter, hold a loaf or several pastries, and open wide for fast filling.

If your staff fill bags in a rush, satchels save time because they stay open on their own. Flat bags win when you need a slim stack under the till.

Satchels also hold a fold better. Roll the top twice, add a sticker, and the bag stays shut on the walk home.

Flat bags cost less to ship and store because they nest tightly. If shelf space under the counter is short, that difference adds up fast.

Grease-resistant lining for butter pastries

Laminated doughs release butter as they cool. In plain paper that shows up as dark spots within minutes.

A grease-resistant lined bag keeps the outside clean and your print sharp. It is the bag to choose for croissants, kouign-amann, palmiers and glazed items.

Lining matters most for items that go in warm. Heat pushes butter into the paper faster than anything else.

You do not need lining for everything. Crusty bread, dry biscuits and wrapped cookies are fine in unlined kraft, which keeps the cost down.

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. Tell us how each bag will be used and we will suggest the right paper.

Window bags that show the crumb

A clear panel lets customers see what they bought without opening the bag. That matters for display shelves and grab-and-go baskets.

Place the window where the best part of the product sits. For muffins that is the top third of the bag; for cookies it is the middle.

Windows also help staff. Anyone packing an order can check the right item went in without opening the bag again.

Clear cellophane bags go further and show everything. Our guide on cellophane versus paper bags for cookies explains when each one keeps baked goods better.

Printing on kraft and white paper

Kraft paper reads as rustic and handmade. Dark inks print well on it, and white ink lets light colors and fine logos show up.

White paper gives the truest color. If your brand uses a specific pink or teal, white paper with a Pantone match gets closest.

Keep artwork simple on bags. One strong logo, your shop name and maybe a short line work better than a busy pattern that wrinkles when the top is folded.

Want to test a few looks first? You can plan your bag artwork with our designers and see each version on a proof before you commit.

Sizing bags around your counter

Bags that are too big look half empty. Bags that are too small crush the top of a muffin or the end of a loaf.

Our cookie and bakery bag size guide has measuring tips, but these rules cover most counters.

If in doubt, send us a photo of your counter and the items side by side. We size from that all the time.

  • Add at least 1 inch to the width of your widest item
  • Leave 2 to 3 inches above the product so the top can fold
  • Give loaves a bag 3 inches longer than the loaf
  • Use a gusset for anything taller than 2 inches
  • Order two cookie sizes if you sell singles and half dozens

Ordering printed bakery bags step by step

Most bakeries order two or three sizes in one go so the print matches across the counter. Here is how it runs.

When you are ready, send sizes and artwork through the bakery bag quote request and a rep will reply with options.

  1. List the items you bag and the size of each one.
  2. Pick bag types, paper and lining with a rep, or use our suggestions.
  3. Send your logo, or ask for free design help.
  4. Check the free digital proof for every size and ask for changes.
  5. Approve, and production finishes in 4-6 business days.
  6. Bags ship free and arrive in 2-3 business days in transit.

Freshness, storage and bag choice

Paper breathes. That keeps a crust crisp but lets soft items dry out by the next morning.

Clear OPP bags hold moisture in. They suit cookies, brownies and soft bakes that customers will not eat the same day.

Bagels and soft rolls sit in between. A paper bag with a window gives a little protection while still showing the product.

Store unused bags flat in a dry cupboard away from ovens and steam. Damp paper loses its shape and the lining can soften at the folds.

Tell customers how to store what they bought. A short line printed on the back of the bag answers the question before they ask it.

Bags for takeaway, markets and wholesale

Market stalls need bags that pack flat in a crate and open fast in the wind. Satchels with a folded top and a sticker seal work well outdoors.

Wholesale bakers supplying cafes often use plain kraft with a single color logo. It keeps cost per bag low across large runs.

Cafes that resell your pastries may want their own name on the bag. We can print a co-branded version from the same template.

For heavier orders that customers carry home, step up to our bakery bags with handles so a full loaf and a box of pastries travel together.

Common bakery bag mistakes

These are the issues we see most when a bakery switches from stock bags to printed ones.

Each of these is easy to fix at proof stage. Once bags are printed, the only fix is a new run, so take a minute to check the proof against your real products.

  • One bag size for every product on the counter
  • Unlined paper for laminated pastries
  • Logos placed so low they disappear inside the fold
  • Light ink on kraft without a white base
  • Running out mid season because only one size was reordered

Price, production and support

Prices start from $0.30 per unit and depend on size, paper, quantity and finish. Your quote confirms the exact figure.

Production takes 4-6 business days after proof approval, and shipping is free to the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Questions about paper weight or lining are easier on the phone. You can reach our packaging team directly by phone, WhatsApp or email.

Misprints or damage reported within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.

Keep a note of your bag sizes and paper choices after the first order. Reorders are faster when you can simply say repeat the last run.

Bakery Bags: questions

What types of bakery bags do you print?

We print flat bags, satchel bags with a gusset, window bags and clear cello bags. Kraft and white paper are both available.

Which bag is best for croissants?

Use a grease-resistant lined paper bag. It keeps butter from staining through the outside print.

Can I print on kraft bakery bags in light colors?

Yes. We print a white ink base on kraft so light colors and thin lines stay visible.

Do bakery bags keep bread fresh?

Paper bags keep a crust crisp on the day of sale. For longer storage customers can move bread to a sealed bag at home.

Can I mix bag sizes in one order?

Yes. Many bakeries order several sizes with the same artwork. Each size gets its own proof.

Do you offer bakery bags with a window?

Yes. A clear film panel can be placed where your product shows best.

Are your bakery bags food safe?

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. Tell us what goes in each bag and we will advise.

What size bag do I need for a baguette?

Choose a long flat bag about 3 inches longer than the loaf. Send us the loaf length and we will size it.

Can you print both sides of the bag?

Yes. Many bakeries use the back for storage tips, social handles or a short message.

Do you make cello bags for cookies?

Yes. Clear OPP bags with a twist tie or self seal strip suit cookies and gift bundles.

How fast can I get printed bakery bags?

Production is 4-6 business days after proof approval. Transit adds 2-3 business days.

What if bags arrive damaged?

Tell us within 10 days. We reprint or refund misprinted or damaged bags.
