Eight boxes built around the dates you sell

Occasion boxes are cookie boxes with a deadline attached. A Valentine box that arrives on February 15 is stock you cannot sell for a year.

This range covers the big holidays, the personal celebrations and the festivals in between. Some bakers want a box for one night only, while others want a design that works from Thanksgiving to New Year.

If you only add one seasonal box, make it a winter design without a date on it. Our printed winter holiday cookie boxes sell from late November into January, which gives you the longest run from one print order.

Seasonal boxes also do a quieter job. They give regular customers a reason to buy again, because the box itself tells them something new is on the counter.

The comparison table below shows what each box suits. The calendar after it shows when to send artwork.

Seasonal boxes also need storage between runs. Keep spares flat, boxed and away from damp so they are ready if you sell the same set again next year.

All eight styles come in 14 to 24 pt paperboard, with rigid board for the gift versions. The rows below show where each one fits best.

Two of the rows are December boxes, and that is deliberate. Counter sales and gift sales in December need different builds, which the sections below explain.

Gift versions use heavier board and fitted inserts, while everyday versions fold fast and pack flat. Most bakers who sell all year end up with one of each.

Working back from your first selling day

Every seasonal order runs on the same clock. Production takes 4 to 6 business days after you approve the proof, and shipping takes 2 to 3 business days.

That is about two calendar weeks at most, but proof changes and your own packing time add more. October is the month people misjudge, because iced Halloween cookie box sets start selling in the first week, not the last.

Count business days, not calendar days. A proof approved on a Thursday afternoon starts production on Friday, and weekends do not count toward the 4 to 6 days.

Public holidays slow carriers too. The weeks around Thanksgiving and late December are the ones where an extra few days of slack saves a selling window.

  1. Pick your first selling day, not the holiday itself.
  2. Subtract one week for packing and photographing the sets.
  3. Subtract two weeks for production and shipping.
  4. Subtract one more week for artwork and proof changes.
  5. Send your quote request on that date or earlier.

When to send artwork for each occasion

The dates below assume you want boxes in hand a week before the selling window opens. Move each date earlier if your design needs several proof rounds.

Weddings and birthdays follow the event date, so count back four weeks from the day itself.

If you reorder the same design every year, keep the approved file. A repeat order with no artwork changes skips most of the proof stage, so it can be sent later.

December brings two kinds of buyer. One wants a box of cookies for a party or a swap, and the other wants a gift to hand over.

The first buyer needs a box that is quick to pack in volume. Our printed Christmas cookie boxes for December sales come in tube, sleeve and window lid styles that fold fast on a busy bench.

Size them for the assortment you actually sell. A swap box often holds a dozen mixed cookies, so dividers or layer sheets stop the soft ones from marking the crisp ones.

Keep a second, smaller size for single gifts and stocking fillers. It sells at the register when the big boxes do not.

Think about the table too. A swap box gets opened on a counter next to a dozen others, so a clear logo on the lid helps guests remember which baker made the best batch.

Gift boxes for clients and corporate orders

Corporate gift orders arrive in October and November with a list of names and a logo that is not yours. The box has to carry both brands without looking crowded.

Our rigid Christmas cookie gift boxes put the client logo on the lid and your bakery name inside or on the base. That keeps the gift about the sender while still marketing your shop.

Ask the client for their logo file early. Corporate artwork often goes through their own approval, which can take longer than our proof.

Corporate buyers often want a message card or a printed note inside the lid. Plan that panel into the artwork from the start rather than adding it after the proof.

Quantities for client gifts are usually fixed by the guest list. Ask for a few extra boxes for last-minute names, which always appear in December.

Valentine's Day in a three-week window

Valentine sales are short and intense. Buying peaks in the days just before February 14, and almost nobody wants a heart cookie on the 15th.

Reds and pinks are hard to print evenly, so the proof stage matters here. Our red and pink Valentine cookie boxes are color matched by Pantone so the shade on the box matches the shade in your photos.

Pair a small box for one heart cookie with a larger box for a set. The small one sells to coworkers and classmates, and the large one sells to partners.

Heart cookies are wider than they look, because the two lobes stick out past a round cookie of the same height. Measure across the widest point before you choose a box size.

Windows shaped like a heart are popular, but keep them away from the box edges so the board stays strong.

Festivals beyond the big three holidays

Many bakeries sell their busiest weeks around Eid, Diwali, Lunar New Year or Hanukkah. Each one moves on the calendar, so check the date each year before you plan.

A single base box with a changeable band or sticker covers several festivals at once. Our festive cookie boxes for year-round celebrations are built around that idea.

Mixed sweets are common at these festivals, so the inside matters. Ask for dividers if the box will carry cookies alongside dates, nuts or soft sweets.

Bilingual artwork is common for festival boxes. Send both texts as editable type, and we lay them out together so neither language looks squeezed onto the lid.

Order festival boxes in neutral base colors when you can. Gold, cream or deep green work across several celebrations.

Birthday sets that spell a name or an age

Birthday cookies often spell something, which means order matters. A set that reads HAPYP is a refund waiting to happen.

Fitted cradles fix this. Our birthday cookie boxes with letter cradles hold each letter or number in its own slot from your bench to the party table.

Keep birthday artwork general, such as balloons or confetti, so one print run covers every customer. Names and ages go on the cookies, not the box.

Number sets need a different layout from letter sets. A two-digit age fits a short rectangle, while a full name needs a longer box or two rows.

Party favor orders work the other way round. One small box holds one cookie, and the count matches the guest list instead of the letters.

For school party orders, check the class size with the parent. Twenty-four favors for a class of twenty-six leaves two children out.

Wedding favors at guest-count scale

Wedding orders are sized by guest count, not by sales forecast. Order the guest count plus a small spare amount for damaged boxes and late additions.

Printing names and a date makes each run single use, so get the spelling right on the proof. Our printed wedding cookie favor boxes carry names, date and foil on a box that holds one cookie or a small set.

Send artwork at least four weeks before the wedding. That leaves room for the couple to approve the proof, which often takes longer than production.

Many couples match the favor box to the invitation. Send the invitation file or its colors, and we pull the palette and fonts into the box artwork.

Favors usually sit at each place setting for several hours. A sealed cello bag inside the box keeps the cookie fresh until guests take it home.

Seasonal mistakes that cost sales

Most seasonal problems come from timing or from artwork that cannot be reused. Both are easy to avoid once you have seen them happen.

For more ideas on stretching one print run across the year, read our holiday cookie packaging ideas guide before you send artwork.

Each of these shows up on proofs every season. We flag them before printing, but catching them in your own plan saves a round of changes.

  • Ordering for the holiday date instead of the first selling day
  • Printing the year on boxes that could sell next season
  • One size only, so single gifts go out in half-empty boxes
  • Dark artwork that hides a thin white logo
  • Leaving client logo approval until November

Price, shipping and problems in peak weeks

Every seasonal order is quoted, with prices from $0.30 per unit depending on size, board, quantity and finish. Shipping is free to the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Ask for two quantities on one quote if you are unsure how a season will sell. The price gap between them helps you decide whether to stock up or reorder later.

If a seasonal order arrives damaged or misprinted, report it within 10 days with photos. We reprint or refund, and in peak weeks a fast report gives us the most time to fix it before your selling window closes.

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. If cookies go straight onto the board without a bag, tell us so we can advise on the inside surface.

Holiday and Occasion Boxes: questions

When should I order Christmas cookie boxes?

Send artwork in early November for December sales. Corporate gift boxes need artwork in October because client approval takes time.

How early should Halloween boxes be ordered?

Send artwork in early September. Halloween sets start selling in the first week of October.

Can I use one design for several holidays?

Yes. A plain base box with a changeable band or sticker covers several occasions from one print run.

Is it smart to put a date on seasonal packaging?

Only if the box is meant as a keepsake. Leave the year off and any leftover stock can sell next season.

Can a gift box carry my client's logo?

Yes. We can print the client logo on the lid and your bakery name inside or on the base.

How many wedding favor boxes should I order?

Order the guest count plus a small spare amount. Damaged boxes and late guests use up the extras.

Can you match Valentine reds and pinks?

Yes. Send a Pantone number and we match it, then show the result on your proof.

Do birthday boxes keep letter cookies in order?

Fitted cradles hold each letter or number in its own slot. The set reads correctly when the lid comes off.

Which boxes suit Eid or Diwali sweets?

Festive boxes with dividers work well for mixed sweets. Tell us what goes inside so we size each cell.

How long does a seasonal order take?

Allow 4 to 6 business days of production after proof approval. Shipping then takes 2 to 3 business days.

Do holiday boxes come with windows?

Most styles can take a PET film window. Heart, tree and round shapes are common for seasonal designs.

What if my holiday order arrives late or damaged?

Report damage or misprints within 10 days with photos for a reprint or refund. Order early so there is time to fix problems before your sales start.
