Who stacks cookies in a tube

Tubes work best for cookies that are round, flat and the same size every time. Shortbread rounds, thin butter cookies, wafer cookies and small chocolate chip rounds all stack well.

Our tube customers tend to be gift shops, coffee roasters adding a sweet item, corporate gift buyers and bakeries that want a standout shelf piece.

A tube stands upright, so it takes less shelf width than a flat box holding the same count. That matters at a busy checkout where space is tight.

Soft, chunky or iced cookies are a poor match, since they stick together or crack under the weight above. If you also sell loose tasters, our mini cookie boxes for sample packs sit well beside a row of tubes.

The inside diameter of the tube is the number that matters most. Too wide and the stack tilts and chips. Too narrow and the first cookie will not come out.

Bake a full batch before measuring, because cookies spread a little differently from tray to tray. Then work through these steps.

A good fit leaves just enough room for a finger and thumb to pinch the top cookie. Anything looser lets the column lean during transit.

  1. Measure the diameter of ten cookies and note the widest one.
  2. Stack the count you plan to sell and measure the stack height.
  3. Decide if the cookies go in bare, in an inner bag or in paper cups.
  4. Add the wrap thickness to the diameter and a little headroom to the height.
  5. Send the numbers and a photo of the stack so we can check the fit.

Tube parts and options

A cookie tube has a body, a lid and sometimes an inner piece that holds the stack off the base. Each part can be printed or left plain.

Here is how buyers usually build theirs. The same parts list applies across our specialty cookie packaging range, so a tube can match your other packs.

Keeping stacked cookies fresh

Paperboard keeps the stack in shape, but it is not an airtight seal. For cookies that need to stay crisp for more than a few days, seal the stack in a clear inner bag first.

A tall, narrow bag slides into the tube and keeps the cookies together when someone pulls them out. Our clear cellophane cookie bags come in twist tie and self seal styles that suit this.

If cookies will touch the tube walls directly, we can supply food-contact grade materials on request. Tell us whether the stack goes in bare or wrapped.

Some bakers drop a small paper disc on top of the stack before closing. It stops the top cookie rubbing against the lid and keeps crumbs off the printed underside.

Artwork on a curved surface

A tube shows only about half its wrap at once. Put your logo and product name where the customer sees them first, then let a pattern run around the back.

The wrap has a join line where both ends meet. Keep text and barcodes clear of it, since any small shift in wrapping lands right there.

Tall, narrow type reads well on a cylinder. Wide logos bend away from view at the edges, so we often suggest stacking a long brand name on two lines.

The proof shows the full flat wrap plus the lid art. Print it on paper and roll it around a jar to see how it reads.

Finishes that suit a tube

A curved surface catches light along its length, so finishes look different here than on a flat box. These are the combinations we suggest most.

Lamination also helps a tube that gets handled a lot. Bare board scuffs where hands grip the middle, while a laminated wrap wipes clean.

  • Matte lamination with a gloss spot UV logo for contrast
  • Gold or silver foil on the lid ring and brand name
  • Kraft wrap with white ink for a bakery-counter look
  • Gloss lamination on bright full color patterns
  • Embossed lid top for a raised logo you can feel

Gift and shelf use

Tubes travel well in gift baskets because they stand up between jars and bottles of sauce. They also fit neatly in a hamper corner where a flat box would not.

For seasonal runs, a plain tube with a printed band lets you switch artwork without new stock. See our holiday cookie packaging ideas for themes that work on round packs.

On a counter, group tubes by flavor with the lids facing up. A printed lid turns the top view into a second label.

Gift buyers often pick up two or three tubes at once. Matching heights with different wrap colors make a neat set, and customers tend to buy the trio rather than one.

Shipping tubes without dents

Tubes are strong end to end but can dent if they roll inside a large carton. Stand them upright in a fitted insert so each one has its own spot.

We size outer cartons around tubes too. Our corrugated cookie shipping boxes can include a die-cut insert that holds several tubes upright.

Pack a thin pad over the lids so they cannot lift during transit. In hot weather, keep tubes of chocolate cookies away from the carton walls, which warm up first.

Mistakes to avoid on a first tube order

Tubes leave less room for error than boxes, because the stack has nowhere to shift. These are the issues that cost brands a reprint.

Almost all of them come from measuring early, before the recipe or the inner wrap is final. Lock both before you send numbers.

  • Measuring one cookie instead of the widest from a full batch
  • Forgetting the thickness of an inner bag or paper cup
  • Putting the barcode across the wrap join line
  • Choosing a wide horizontal logo that bends out of view
  • Making the tube so tall that the stack drops and chips

Timing, freight and reprints

Your free proof comes first, and revisions are unlimited until the wrap looks right. We print tubes in 4 to 6 business days after sign-off, and transit runs 2 to 3 business days.

Tube orders ship to you at no charge across the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Should tubes arrive dented or misprinted, report it within 10 days under our reprint and refund policy.

Formed tubes take more storage room than flat-packed boxes. Clear a dry shelf for the cartons before delivery day, away from oven steam.

Tube quotes start from $0.30 per unit and shift with diameter, height, board, quantity and finish. Your written quote confirms the figure.

Give us the widest cookie diameter, your stack count and your logo file on the cookie tube quote form. For a quick question, call or WhatsApp (503) 461-4788 or email info@thecookiebags.com.

Ask for the tube and any matching outer carton on the same quote. Artwork, color and timing then line up across both.

Cookie Tubes: questions

What kind of cookies fit best in a tube?

Round, flat cookies of the same size stack best. Shortbread rounds, thin butter cookies and wafers are common choices.

How do you size a cookie tube?

We size it from your widest cookie diameter and your stack height. Send both numbers and a photo of the stack.

Are your cookie tubes airtight?

No. Seal the stack in an inner bag if the cookies need to stay crisp for several days.

Can the lid be printed?

Yes. A printed lid shows when tubes stand in a basket or on a low shelf.

Can I use one tube for several flavors?

Yes. Keep one plain tube and print a different band for each flavor.

Where does the join line sit on the wrap?

Your proof marks it. Keep text and barcodes away from that strip.

Do you offer kraft cookie tubes?

Yes. Kraft wraps with white ink give a natural bakery look.

Can you add foil to a cookie tube?

Yes. Foil stamping works well on the lid ring and the brand name.

How do I ship cookie tubes safely?

Stand them upright in a fitted insert inside a corrugated carton. Add a pad over the lids.

How long does a tube order take?

Tubes are printed within 4 to 6 business days of proof approval. Delivery takes another 2 to 3 business days.

Can cookies touch the inside of the tube?

They can if you request food-contact grade material and tell us how the stack is packed.

How much do custom cookie tubes cost?

Quotes start from $0.30 per unit. Diameter, height, quantity and finish set the final price.
