What Valentine treat bags are used for

These bags carry small portions. Think one decorated heart cookie, a pair of sugar cookies or a handful of chocolate hearts.

Bakeries sell them as impulse buys near the register in early February. Decorators add them to preorder menus as a cheaper option next to full boxes.

Parents, teachers and party planners also order them for class handouts and office treats. A printed bag makes a homemade cookie feel like a proper gift.

Cafes use them for single cookies sold beside coffee. A printed bag turns a loose cookie into something people carry out and share.

Cello, paper or pouch

Each bag type suits a different treat. The table below shows how we usually match them.

Clear cello shows off piped icing and sprinkles. Paper bags hide the treat and give you more space to print, and pouches reseal for candy mixes.

If you are torn between the first two, our comparison of cellophane and paper bags walks through the tradeoffs in more detail.

Bag typeBest forClosure

White or kraft flat paperPlain cookies, mixed treatsFold-over top with sticker
Paper bag with windowCookies you want partly seenFold-over or sticker
Stand-up zipper pouchCandy hearts, cookie bitesZipper
Grease-lined paperButter cookies, browniesFold-over top

Measure your cookie at its widest point. Add about half an inch on each side so the cookie slides in without catching the icing.

Then add length for the closure. A twist tie needs roughly two inches of extra bag above the cookie, and a self-seal strip needs about one.

For stacked cookies, measure the stack height as well. A flat bag stretched over a thick stack pulls tight and wrinkles the print.

Heart cookies with a pointed bottom can poke through thin film corners. Leave a little extra room at the base, or slide the cookie in point up.

Pairs of cookies can sit back to back in a flat bag. Put a small square of parchment between them so the icing does not stick.

Printing hearts on clear film

Printing on clear cello works differently from printing on paper. Colors sit on a see-through surface, so light shades can fade against the cookie behind them.

We can print a white ink layer under your colors where you need them to look solid. Leave the center of the bag unprinted so the cookie stays visible.

Common Valentine layouts on clear bags include:

Metallic looks are possible too. A metallized pouch gives a shiny pink or silver finish, though it hides the treat inside.

  • Scattered small hearts around the edges
  • A printed label panel with your logo
  • A red or pink band across the bottom
  • A short message near the top seal
  • A plain bag with only a small corner logo

Closures for handouts and shelves

Twist ties are cheap and quick, and you can color-match them to your print. They suit bags handed out the same day.

Self-seal strips close faster when you pack many bags. They also look neater on a retail shelf because the top lies flat.

Zipper pouches cost more but reseal. Choose them when the bag holds several small pieces that buyers eat over a few days.

For a retail peg, ask about a hang hole above the seal. It lets you display bags on a hook beside the register.

These closures work for other seasons too. Our holiday and occasion packaging range shows styles that pair well with them.

Packing steps for a busy February week

Treat bags often go out in large batches for classrooms and offices. A simple routine keeps the line moving.

Set up your table so cookies, bags, closures and labels sit in that order. Pack the same count in each bag before you switch to the next flavor.

  1. Let iced cookies dry fully before bagging, usually overnight.
  2. Slide the cookie in face forward so the design shows through the printed area.
  3. Press out extra air before you seal the top.
  4. Close with a twist tie, the adhesive strip or the zipper.
  5. Add a name tag or flavor sticker if the order needs one.

Freshness and condensation

Cookies bagged while still warm trap steam. That moisture softens the cookie and clouds the inside of a clear bag.

Wait until cookies cool completely and icing sets. Then seal and store the bags at room temperature, away from sunny windows.

If your bags need food-contact grade film or paper, we can supply it on request. Just tell us what the bag will hold and how long it will sit.

For cookies that must last more than a few days, a sealed metallized cookie mylar bag blocks more air and light than clear cello.

Matching bags with your Valentine boxes

Many sellers offer a gift box for larger orders and a bag for single cookies. Using one design across both keeps your table and photos consistent.

If you also need boxes, our custom Valentine cookie box options can carry the same hearts and colors.

Bags also slip inside boxes as an inner wrap. That keeps cookies fresher in a box without a sealed window.

Holiday sellers often keep the same bag shape all year and change only the print. That way packing habits stay the same each season.

Bags for school and office handouts

Class treats need many identical bags packed quickly. A self-seal cello bag with a printed heart band is the fastest option.

Teachers who prefer a paper look often choose small printed paper cookie bags with a fold-over top and a heart sticker.

Some schools ask for a list of ingredients on every treat. Leave a blank panel on the bag where you can add a small label.

Office gift runs often add a company logo beside the hearts. Keep the logo small so the bag still reads as a Valentine gift.

If you pack treats for a whole school, ask for bags with a printed blank line for a child's name. Parents fill it in at home, and you print one design for everyone.

Mistakes to avoid with Valentine bags

Ordering bags that are too narrow is the most common error. The cookie fits, but the icing smears on the way in.

Another is printing light pink on clear film without a white layer behind it. The color looks washed out once a brown cookie sits behind it.

Check your proof against a real cookie before you approve. Our cookie bag sizes guide lists typical bag sizes for common cookie widths.

A third mistake is printing a full heart pattern over the whole clear bag. The cookie disappears behind the print, which defeats the point of clear film.

Pricing, timing and delivery

Treat bags start from $0.30 per unit. The final number depends on bag type, size, quantity and print, and your quote confirms it.

Clear cello with a one or two color print is usually the lowest cost option. Zipper pouches and full color paper bags cost more per piece.

Your bags go to press 4 to 6 business days after you sign off the proof, then spend 2 to 3 business days in transit. We cover shipping to the US, UK, Canada and Australia at no charge.

Send your artwork and bag size through the treat bag quote request page, or call or WhatsApp (503) 461-4788. You can also email info@thecookiebags.com.

Valentine Treat Bags: questions

What size bag fits one heart cookie?

Measure your cookie at its widest point and add about half an inch on each side. Then add one to two inches of length for the closure.

Can you print on clear cellophane bags?

Yes. We print full color on clear OPP film and can add a white ink layer under the colors so they look solid.

Which closure is fastest for class treats?

Self-seal strips are the fastest for large batches. Twist ties are cheaper but take longer per bag.

Do you make Valentine bags in kraft paper?

Can I get resealable Valentine pouches?

Yes. Stand-up zipper pouches suit candy hearts and cookie bites that people eat over a few days.

Will clear bags fog up?

They fog if cookies are bagged warm. Let cookies cool and icing set before you seal them.

Can the bag match my Valentine cookie boxes?

Is there space to add an ingredient label?

We can leave a blank panel on the bag for a sticker. Tell us the label size so we plan the space.

Can I print a company logo next to hearts?

Yes. Many office gift orders use a small logo beside a heart pattern.

Bags are printed within 4 to 6 business days once you approve the proof. Transit then adds 2 to 3 business days.
