Display boxes live next to the register, on a cafe counter or at the end of a shelf. They sell single cookies that buyers did not plan to buy.

Coffee shops, delis, gyms, salons and gift stores stock them because they take up little room. A shop owner can clear a small patch of counter and start selling the same day.

Wholesale bakers use them to place cookies in other people's stores. The display does your selling when you are not there.

Farmers market vendors set two or three on a table to show flavors at a glance.

If you mostly sell boxed dozens rather than singles, start with our main range of custom printed cookie boxes instead.

How a Counter Display Is Built

Most cookie displays are an open tray with a tall back panel. The back panel, called a header, carries your logo and a short message.

The front edge is cut low so a hand can reach in easily. The sides often slope down from back to front so shoppers see every cookie.

Many styles ship flat and fold up with locking tabs. Some have a lid that tucks inside during shipping and folds back to form the header in store.

Corrugated board is used for larger or heavier displays. Paperboard handles most single row counter units for wrapped cookies.

Ask for a fold sample photo on your proof if the store staff will assemble it. Clear tab shapes save confused calls on delivery day.

Sizing a Display for Your Wrapped Cookies

Display size starts with one wrapped cookie. Measure its length, width and thickness in the bag, then decide how many should face forward.

This table gives common setups. We adjust every dimension to your actual product.

Bring a few bagged cookies to the store before you order. Lay them on the counter spot where the display will go and check the space.

Wrapping Cookies Before They Go in the Display

Cookies in an open display must be individually wrapped. Shoppers touch and pick up packs, so bare cookies are not an option.

Clear film shows the cookie and keeps it fresh. Our clear cellophane cookie bags are the most common choice for display stock.

Paper bags hide the cookie but give you more space to print. Pick the look that suits your brand and your shelf life needs.

Film holds moisture in, which suits soft and chewy cookies. Paper breathes, which suits crisp bakes like biscotti and shortbread.

Each wrapped pack should carry its own label with flavor, ingredients and allergens. The display header cannot do that job for every cookie.

What the Header Panel Should Say

Shoppers glance at a display for a second or two. The header has to say what is inside and who made it in that time.

Keep it short and large. Long stories belong on your website or your wrapped labels.

Use a seasonal sticker on the header for limited flavors. That keeps one printed display in use all year.

  • Your logo, as big as the panel allows
  • Two to five words naming the product, such as Fresh Baked Cookies
  • One flavor highlight or a seasonal note if it changes often
  • A price sticker area if the store sets its own price
  • Your website or social handle in small type at the bottom

Printing Inside and Outside the Tray

The inside walls of a display are visible as cookies sell down. A plain brown interior looks unfinished once the tray is half empty.

Printing the inside in a brand color or a simple pattern keeps the display looking good until the last cookie goes.

Gloss lamination wipes clean and handles crumbs and coffee rings at a busy counter. Matte looks calmer but marks more easily.

If your outer packaging uses kraft, white ink keeps the header readable without losing the natural look. Strong contrast matters more here than on most boxes.

Not sure where the inside panels fall on a flat layout? Our page on how to design your display packaging with us explains how the proof shows each panel.

Ordering a Display Box Run

Displays need a fit check before the full run, because cookies, bags and the tray all have to agree. Follow these steps.

  1. Bag a finished cookie and measure it in the bag.
  2. Tell us how many cookies each display should hold and where it will sit.
  3. We send a free digital proof of the flat layout and the folded unit.
  4. Request changes to the header text or sizing, with no limit on revisions.
  5. Approve the proof for 4 to 6 days of production and 2 to 3 days in transit.

Placing Displays in Other Retailers

When you supply a coffee shop or gift store, the display is your sales rep. Make it easy for staff to restock and easy for shoppers to understand.

Ship displays flat with the cookies in a separate case. The store folds the display, fills it and recycles the outer case.

Our guide on packaging cookies to sell in stores covers labels and wrapping that most retailers ask about.

Agree with each store how long a cookie can sit on the counter. Rotate older packs to the front when you restock.

Leave a small card or sticker with your reorder details on the back panel. Staff will know where to call when stock runs low.

Display Box Mistakes We Catch on Proofs

The front lip is often drawn too tall. Shoppers then have to lift each pack over a wall, which slows impulse sales.

Headers with too much text are the next issue. If a phrase does not help a quick choice, it can move to the cookie label.

Another mistake is sizing the tray to bare cookies instead of bagged ones. Bag seals and labels add bulk that changes the count per row.

Some buyers also forget weight. A full tray of thick cookies can sag in thin board, so we suggest corrugated for heavier loads.

We note these on the proof, and our reprint and refund policy covers misprints or damage reported within 10 days.

Pairing Displays With Take-Home Packaging

A counter display sells singles. Many shoppers then ask for a box of four or six to take home.

Keep a stack of matching boxes behind the counter for those requests. Our printed bakery cookie boxes can share the same artwork as your display header.

Printed bands work too. A printed band slides over a plain box and ties it back to the display.

Matching display and take-home packaging makes a small brand look established on someone else's counter.

Some sellers print a short web address or QR code on the header that points to their online shop. Buyers who liked the single can then order a full box later.

Getting Display Boxes Quoted

Cookie display pricing starts from $0.30 per unit. The final number moves with size, board choice, order quantity and finish, and your quote lists it plainly.

Tell us the wrapped cookie size and where the unit will sit, then request a display box quote. Questions first? Reach us at info@thecookiebags.com.

There is no shipping charge to the US, UK, Canada or Australia. Damage or print faults found on arrival should be flagged within 10 days.

Cookie Display Boxes: questions

What is a cookie display box?

It is an open tray with a printed header panel that holds wrapped cookies on a counter or shelf. Shoppers take cookies straight from it.

Do cookies need to be wrapped in a display box?

Yes. Cookies in an open display should each be wrapped and labeled, since shoppers handle the packs.

Do display boxes ship flat?

Most styles ship flat and fold up with locking tabs in a few seconds.

Can the header panel be a different shape?

Yes. We can cut the top of the header into an arch, a cookie outline or another simple shape.

Should I choose paperboard or corrugated?

Paperboard suits most single row counter units. Corrugated is better for larger trays or heavy cookies.

Can you print inside the tray?

Yes. Inside printing keeps the display looking finished as it sells down.

Can I leave a space for store pricing?

Yes. We can add a blank panel on the header or front lip for a price sticker.

How many cookies should one display hold?

That depends on counter space and sales speed. Most counter units hold one or two rows of wrapped cookies.

Which finish handles a busy counter best?

Gloss lamination wipes clean and resists coffee and crumbs better than matte.

Can I supply displays to other stores?

Yes. Ship them flat with cookies packed separately so the store can assemble and fill them.

Are the materials suitable for food?

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. Since cookies sit wrapped in a display, most buyers use standard board.

How fast can display boxes arrive?

Production takes 4 to 6 business days from proof approval, and transit takes 2 to 3 business days.
