The box your counter staff fold all day

A bakery cookie box is a working box. It gets folded in the morning rush, filled under pressure and handed over in seconds.

That changes what matters. Speed of folding, a lid that stays shut and a size that fits your standard order count all beat fancy extras.

Most bakeries settle on two sizes: one for half a dozen and one for a dozen. A third, smaller box covers single and pair sales.

If you already know your order counts, start there. Box size follows the count and the cookie diameter, not the other way round.

You can see the wider range of shapes in our custom cookie box collection if your menu needs something unusual.

Take your most common cookie and measure it after baking. Then decide how they will sit: flat in a grid, standing on edge, or stacked.

Flat grids look generous and suit decorated cookies. Standing rows fit more cookies in a smaller footprint and suit drop cookies.

Thick bakery-style cookies, the kind that stand an inch tall, need a deeper box than people plan for. Add a quarter inch of headroom above the tallest one.

The table shows starting points our reps use. Your proof will show the exact inside dimensions before anything is printed.

Send a photo of six cookies laid out the way you want them. We can size the box straight from that.

Styles that suit fast counter service

Not every style works when there is a queue. Pick one your team can fold with their eyes on the customer.

Pre-folding a stack before opening helps, but the style still decides how many you can fold in a slow moment.

Try a sample fold with your slowest staff member, not your fastest. That is the speed you will see on a Saturday morning.

  • Tuck end with a front flap: quick to fold, closes firmly
  • Lid and base: lifts off for display, stacks well in a case
  • Window lid: shows the cookies, popular for mixed boxes
  • Tray and sleeve: slower to pack, feels more like a gift

Windows, dividers and keeping flavors apart

A window on the lid sells the box from across the room. Customers can see the mix without asking staff to open it.

Dividers keep cookies from rubbing against each other. They also stop a strong flavor such as peppermint or ginger from scenting the whole box.

Paperboard dividers fold flat and slot in before filling. If you want a fitted tray instead, our cookie boxes with built-in dividers show the options.

Skip dividers for single flavor boxes. They add folding time and do little when every cookie is the same.

A window also helps with allergy questions. Customers can spot nuts or chocolate chips before buying.

Board, coatings and grease on the lid

Butter cookies leave marks on uncoated board, especially in a warm shop. A coating on the inside or a liner sheet keeps the box clean.

SBS board suits bright full color printing. Kraft board gives a handmade look and pairs well with white ink or a single dark color.

Thicker board, around 18 to 24 pt, holds its shape when boxes are stacked three or four high in a case. Thinner board is fine for boxes that leave the shop straight away.

Cookies that sit straight on the board can go in food-contact grade stock on request. Mention it when you ask for a quote.

Artwork that works for a bakery brand

The lid carries your logo. The sides carry the details customers look for later, such as your website, phone and opening hours.

Leave a clear space on one side for a flavor sticker or handwritten label. Mixed boxes change daily, so printing every flavor is rarely worth it.

If you change your look each season, keep the base box plain and use a printed sleeve. Our team can help you plan bakery box artwork that works across the year.

Ask for your proof in both board colors if you are unsure. Kraft shifts colors more than people expect.

A simple one or two color lid also keeps reorders consistent. Fewer colors means less drift between runs.

From quote to boxes on your shelf

The order process is short. Most bakeries send everything in one email and approve a proof within a day or two.

  1. Share the cookie size, count per box and box style.
  2. Pick board and finish, and say if you need windows or dividers.
  3. Send artwork, or ask for free design help from our team.
  4. Review the free digital proof and request unlimited revisions.
  5. Approve, and we print in 4-6 business days.
  6. Boxes ship flat and arrive in 2-3 business days in transit.

Storing and stacking boxes in the shop

Flat boxes take far less room than you expect. A carton of a few hundred fits under most counters.

Keep them away from the oven wall and the dishwasher. Heat and steam curl board and loosen glued corners.

Count what you use in a normal week and keep at least two weeks of stock. Reorder when you open the last carton.

Fold a morning batch before you open. A short stack of ready boxes stops queues from building during the first rush.

When boxes go into a display case, stack filled boxes no more than four high so the bottom lids do not bow.

Keep a printed note of each box size taped inside the carton lid. New staff then grab the right box without guessing.

When customers travel or ship the box

A counter box is made for the walk home. It will not survive a courier on its own.

For local delivery, place boxes in a handle bag or crate so they stay flat. For mail orders, pack them into a corrugated outer.

Tell customers not to leave boxes on a car dashboard. Sun through glass softens icing in minutes and warps the lid.

If you plan to ship regularly, our cookie shipping boxes are built for courier handling from the start.

Counter box mistakes we often fix

These come up when bakeries move from stock white boxes to printed ones.

If you are new to selling boxed cookies, our guide on how to package cookies for sale walks through labeling and freshness too.

  • Sizing from raw dough balls instead of baked cookies
  • Printing flavors on the box when the mix changes daily
  • Choosing a slow style for the busiest order size
  • Thin board for boxes that get stacked in a case
  • No space left for a label or sticker

Bakery Cookie Boxes: questions

What sizes do bakery cookie boxes come in?

We size them to your cookie and count. Common builds hold 4, 6 or 12 cookies.

How do I measure for a bakery cookie box?

Measure a baked cookie, not the dough. Then tell us how many per box and whether they lie flat or stand.

Which style is fastest for counter staff?

A tuck end box is usually quickest to fold. Lid and base styles are a little slower but stack better.

Can I get a window on the lid?

Yes. We add PET window film so customers can see the cookies.

Do you offer dividers for mixed boxes?

Yes. Paperboard dividers keep flavors apart and stop cookies rubbing.

Will butter stain the box?

Uncoated board can mark. A coating or a liner sheet keeps the box clean.

Can I print on kraft board?

Yes. We print dark colors directly and use white ink for lighter colors.

Can I leave space for flavor labels?

Yes. Many bakeries keep a blank panel for a sticker or handwritten label.

Are bakery cookie boxes suitable for shipping?

They are counter boxes. For couriers, pack them inside a corrugated mailer.

Are the boxes food safe?

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. Tell us if cookies will touch the board directly.

How long does an order take?

Production is 4-6 business days after proof approval. Transit is 2-3 business days.

Do boxes come folded?

They ship flat to save space. Your team folds them as needed.
