Most of our birthday box orders come from home bakers and cookie decorators who take custom party orders. Bakeries with a celebration menu are a close second.

Party planners order them as favors, and some brands send birthday cookies to customers or staff as a thank-you. Each group needs a slightly different box.

A decorator selling a twelve-piece name set needs a box that keeps letters in order. A planner handing out thirty favors needs a small box that is quick to fill.

Tell us which of these you are, and we can point you straight at the right build. You can also browse our wider occasion cookie box range for ideas.

Box sizes for common birthday sets

Birthday sets follow a pattern. Age numbers, a name spelled out, a cake or balloon cookie and some fillers.

Plan the box from the biggest cookie in the set, usually the number. Then fit the smaller pieces around it.

Depth is easy to forget. Cookies with piped balloons, sprinkles or a fondant topper can stand a quarter inch taller than a flat iced piece.

The table gives typical setups. We size the final box from your real cookies on the proof.

Keep two or three standard sizes in stock rather than a new one for every order. Most sets can be planned to fit them.

Keeping letters and numbers in order

A name set is only right if it arrives in order. If the letters slide, the box opens to a jumble and the photo moment is gone.

A paperboard insert with a slot for each letter fixes this. Shallow cradles also stop thin royal icing pieces from chipping at the corners.

For age sets with big numbers, a fitted base insert keeps the numbers centered while minis fill the gaps. Our cookie boxes with fitted inserts show the shapes we can cut.

Allow a little play in each slot. Hand decorated cookies vary in size, and a slot that is too tight cracks the icing.

Printing birthday boxes without making them single use

Here is the catch with birthday boxes. Printing a name or age on the lid makes it one order only.

Most decorators print a general birthday design or their own brand, then personalize with a sticker, tag or ribbon. That keeps one print run useful all year.

Planners and brands ordering for one event can print the name and date straight on the box. That works well when every box goes to the same party.

If you want both, order a branded base run and a smaller event run. The event boxes cost a little more per unit but stop you wasting stock.

  • Brand logo on the lid, birthday message on a sticker
  • General happy birthday print, name on a gift tag
  • Full event print with name and date for one party
  • Plain lid with a printed belly band for each theme

Colors, themes and finishes

Birthday boxes are where bright color earns its place. Full color CMYK covers balloons, confetti and character-free patterns without limits.

Pink, blue and gold are steady sellers. If you sell girls' parties most weeks, a run of printed pink cookie boxes may cover most of your orders.

Foil adds sparkle to a logo or a happy birthday line. Spot UV on confetti dots gives a raised shine that people like to touch.

Keep the cookie the star. A busy lid can fight with a busy set of decorated cookies seen through the window.

Windows and the reveal

There are two schools here. A window lets everyone at the party see the set before it opens. A solid lid keeps the surprise until the birthday person lifts it.

For favors, windows win. Guests can pick their design, and the table looks fuller with the cookies on show.

For a single gift box, many decorators prefer a solid lid with a printed message inside. The opening becomes part of the gift.

Some decorators order both. Window boxes for favors and solid lids for the main gift share the same artwork and print in one run.

If you want a design for the inside of the lid, you can plan your box artwork with our team and see both views on your proof.

Birthday orders come with a fixed date, so build in time for proofs. Start through our birthday box quote form with your cookie sizes ready.

  1. List the sets you sell and measure the largest cookie in each.
  2. Pick box style, board, insert and window.
  3. Decide what is printed and what you will add by sticker or tag.
  4. Send artwork, or ask for free design help.
  5. Review your free proof and request any revisions.
  6. Approve, then allow 4-6 business days to print and 2-3 to ship.

Party favor boxes in bulk

Favor orders are about speed. Thirty kids, thirty boxes, one afternoon to pack.

Choose a tuck end or a small lid and base that folds in seconds. Pre-fold the whole batch before decorating day so packing is just filling and closing.

One cookie per box keeps it simple and fair. If you want something smaller still, our mini cookie boxes for favors hold a single small cookie.

Add a guest name sticker on the lid so children can find their own box on the table.

Delivering birthday cookies safely

A lot of birthday sets travel by car to a party venue. Keep the box flat on the floor of the car, not on a seat, and away from sun through the windows.

For sets that go by courier, place the printed box inside a corrugated mailer. Fill every gap so the box cannot shift, and avoid shipping over a weekend.

Hand delivery is the safest option for big sets. Carry the box level and place it on the party table yourself if the venue allows it.

If a set must reach another city, our printed cookie mailer boxes can carry the whole gift in one branded piece.

Birthday box mistakes we see

These cost decorators time or money on their first printed order.

A quick fit test with a real set before you approve the proof avoids nearly all of them.

  • Printing a child's name on a run meant for many orders
  • No insert, so the name set arrives jumbled
  • Sizing slots too tight for hand decorated cookies
  • Ordering too close to the party date
  • A loud lid that clashes with the cookies in the window

Pricing and timing for birthday orders

Prices start from $0.30 per unit. Your price depends on size, board, quantity and finish, and the quote confirms it.

Birthday orders have a hard date, so count backward. Proof approval, 4-6 business days of production and 2-3 days in transit should all land before the party.

Milestone birthdays such as first, sixteenth and fiftieth tend to need larger sets. Ask about a bigger box when you quote so it is ready for those orders.

Shipping is free to the US, UK, Canada and Australia. If boxes reach you misprinted or crushed, tell us inside 10 days for a reprint or refund.

Birthday Cookie Boxes: questions

What size birthday cookie box do I need?

Size the box from the largest cookie in the set, usually the age number. We confirm exact sizes on your proof.

Can the box keep a name set in order?

Yes. A paperboard insert with a slot for each letter keeps the name in sequence.

Can you print a child's name on the lid?

Yes, for single event orders. For repeat use, most decorators print a general design and add a name sticker.

Do you make small favor boxes for parties?

Yes. Small tuck end or lid and base boxes hold one cookie and fold quickly.

Can I get a window lid?

Yes. PET window film lets guests see the cookies before opening.

Which finishes suit birthday boxes?

Foil, spot UV and gloss lamination are popular. Full color printing covers bright party themes.

How far ahead should I order?

Allow time for the proof, 4-6 business days of production and 2-3 days in transit. Add a few days spare before the party.

Can I order a pink or blue version?

Yes. Any color can be printed, and Pantone matching is available.

Can birthday boxes be shipped by courier?

Pack them inside a corrugated mailer with gaps filled. Avoid weekend transit.

Are the boxes safe for unwrapped cookies?

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. Tell us how the cookies will sit in the box.

Can I print inside the lid?

Yes. A message inside the lid makes the opening part of the gift.

Do the boxes arrive flat?

Yes. They ship flat and fold in seconds.
