What a counter macaron box has to do

A macaron is light, round and brittle at the edges. Put six in an open box and they roll into each other the moment the customer turns a corner.

The bakery box solves three problems at once. It holds every shell in its own spot, keeps the feet from chipping, and shows off the colors you worked hard to get right.

Fingerprints are the quiet problem. Every time a shell is touched, the surface dulls, so a box that lets staff place and close without handling twice keeps the product looking fresh.

Counter boxes also need to be quick. Your staff will fill them with tongs in front of a queue, so the insert has to accept a macaron without fiddling.

Bakeries that also sell biscotti, tarts or sablés can match these boxes across their range. Our macaron and specialty packaging collection keeps the look consistent.

Picking a count and a layout

Most patisseries sell in sixes and dozens, with a small box for one to three as an impulse buy at the till. Larger counts of 24 suit events and office orders.

Layout matters as much as count. A single row on edge shows every color through a long window. A flat grid shows the tops and feels more generous.

Measure your shells after filling. A macaron that is 1.6 inches wide and an inch tall needs a different cavity from a thin, wide French style.

If you are unsure, start with sixes and twelves only. Add the small till box once you see how often customers ask for one or two.

Inserts that hold each shell still

The insert is the heart of the box. A paperboard tray with a cavity for each macaron stops rolling and keeps the shells from touching.

For shells on edge, a slotted divider works well and folds flat for storage. For flat grids, a die-cut cavity tray sits in the base and lifts out for cleaning spills.

Ask for cavities a touch bigger than the shell. A tight fit cracks the feet when staff press the macaron in.

A colored insert is a small upgrade that shows in every open box. A pale pink or mint tray behind the shells frames them without extra printing on the lid.

  • Slotted dividers for macarons standing in a row
  • Die-cut cavity trays for flat grids
  • Two-layer inserts with a separator card for 24 counts
  • A single cradle for one large or display macaron

Windows and showing off your colors

Macarons sell on color. A window lets a customer see the pistachio, raspberry and salted caramel line-up before they pay.

Long narrow windows suit a row of shells on edge. A wide window over a flat grid shows the tops and any decoration.

Line up flavors so neighbors contrast. A dark chocolate shell between two pastels makes the window look fuller.

PET film keeps fingers off the shells. It also stops the box from drying out as fast as an open tray would.

Keep printed text away from the window edge. Small type wrapped around a cutout looks crowded on such a small lid.

Chilled storage and condensation

Many patisseries keep boxed macarons in a chilled case. Cold board picks up moisture when it meets warm shop air, and that can soften a lid.

Thicker board with a matte or gloss lamination handles that cycle better than uncoated stock. Lamination also wipes clean if a filling smears on the outside.

Let boxes come back to room temperature before a customer carries them out in hot weather. That gives any surface moisture time to settle.

Tell us if boxes will be filled ahead and kept cold. We will suggest a board and coating that holds up.

Shells that touch the insert directly can go in food-contact grade board on request. It is worth asking about for fillings that leak.

Board color and a bakery look

White board makes pastel shells pop and suits a clean, French patisserie style. Kraft board gives a warmer, rustic feel that some bakeries prefer for seasonal flavors.

If you want a natural look on a brown board, our kraft macaron box options cover the same counts in unbleached stock.

Foil on the logo is a popular touch on small macaron lids. It reads well at arm's length and does not add much to a small print area.

Inside printing is another option. A pattern or short message under the lid gives an opening moment without crowding the outside.

Ordering bakery macaron boxes

Bring your shell size and your best-selling counts, and the rest takes a few emails. Start through our macaron box quote request or by phone.

  1. Measure a filled shell and list the counts you sell.
  2. Choose a layout, insert type, box style and board.
  3. Send a logo, or ask our designers for free design help.
  4. Check the free digital proof, including the insert layout.
  5. Request any changes; revisions are unlimited.
  6. Approve, and your boxes are printed in 4-6 business days.

Gift orders and larger boxes

The everyday counter box is not always enough for a gift. Wedding favors, corporate thank-yous and holiday sets often call for a sturdier build.

When a customer wants a keepsake rather than a takeaway, point them to printed macaron gift boxes with a heavier lid and fuller presentation.

Keep the same logo and colors across both. Customers then recognize your brand whether they buy a box of six or a box of twenty-four.

A printed belly band around a counter box is a cheaper middle step. It dresses up a box of six for a birthday without a new box size.

Sending macaron boxes further than the street

Counter boxes travel well in a hand or a tote. They are not built for a courier van in July.

For local delivery, pack boxes flat in an insulated carrier with a cold pack. For postal orders, place each box inside a padded corrugated outer.

Fill the box so there is no empty cavity. A gap lets the neighbors lean, and leaning shells crack at the feet.

Our guide to shipping delicate bakes safely covers heat and padding, and the advice applies to macarons too.

Macaron box mistakes worth avoiding

These are the problems we help patisseries fix after their first stock boxes.

Order a sample box with your first run and fill it with real shells. It takes five minutes and catches most of these at once.

  • Cavities sized to the cookie shell before filling
  • No insert at all, so shells roll and chip
  • Uncoated board in a chilled case
  • Small text crowded around a window
  • Only one box size, so single sales go in a box of six

Price and delivery for macaron boxes

Prices start from $0.30 per unit. Count, insert, board and finish decide the final price, which your quote confirms.

Printing takes 4-6 business days after you approve the proof, then boxes spend 2-3 business days in transit. Delivery to the US, UK, Canada and Australia is free.

If anything arrives misprinted or crushed, report it within 10 days. The packaging return policy sets out how reprints and refunds work.

Many patisseries reorder before spring and before the holidays, when macaron gifts peak. Plan around those dates.

Bakery Macaron Boxes: questions

How many macarons fit in a bakery macaron box?

We build boxes for 1, 2, 3, 6, 12 or 24 macarons. Custom counts are possible too.

Do bakery macaron boxes come with inserts?

Yes. Each box can include a slotted divider or a die-cut cavity tray.

Should macarons stand on edge or lie flat?

On edge shows every color through a long window. Flat shows the tops and suits decorated shells.

How do I measure for the insert?

Measure a filled macaron, both width and height. Allow a little extra room so staff can place it without cracking it.

Yes. Choose thicker board with lamination so the lid handles condensation.

Can I get a window on a macaron box?

Yes. PET film windows can be long and narrow or wide over a grid.

Yes. We print on kraft board and use white ink for lighter colors.

Can macarons touch the insert directly?

Food-contact grade board is available on request. Tell us how the shells will sit.

Are bakery macaron boxes good for shipping?

They need an outer padded carton for couriers. In warm weather, add a cold pack.

Yes. Foil stamping, embossing and spot UV are all available.

How long does an order take?

Production takes 4-6 business days after proof approval. Transit adds 2-3 business days.
