Who orders biscuit boxes from us

Most biscuit box orders come from small bakeries, tea rooms and gift shops. Many of them sell shortbread, butter biscuits or oat biscuits by the half dozen or dozen.

UK and Australian customers often say biscuit where US customers say cookie. The box is the same idea, but biscuits tend to be thinner, drier and more brittle than a soft drop cookie.

That brittleness drives every choice on this page. A biscuit box has to stop movement first and look good second, because a box of broken shortbread is a refund waiting to happen.

We also print for farm shops, holiday markets and online sellers who post biscuits across the country. Each of them needs a box that holds its shape after a few days in transit.

Choosing a style for flat, brittle bakes

Thin biscuits stack well on edge or flat in short piles. The style you pick should match how they sit in the box and how the buyer will open it.

A sleeve and tray suits shortbread fingers because the tray slides out like a drawer. A two-piece lid suits mixed assortments where people lift the lid and pick one.

If you also sell soft, thick drop cookies, our everyday standard cookie box range suits those bakes better than a shallow biscuit tray.

Measuring your biscuit before you ask for a size

Size errors are the most common problem we see on biscuit orders. A box that is 5 mm too wide lets a whole row tip over the first time the box is tilted.

Measure finished, cooled biscuits, not the cutter. Butter biscuits spread in the oven, so the cutter size is always smaller than the bake.

Thickness matters just as much when biscuits stand on edge. Ten biscuits stacked flat give you a fair average, and we add a small allowance on top.

  1. Bake a normal batch and let it cool fully.
  2. Measure the widest point of five biscuits and note the largest.
  3. Measure the height of a stack of ten, then divide by ten.
  4. Decide whether they sit flat or stand on edge in rows.
  5. Send us those numbers and the count per box with your quote request.

Trays and row inserts that stop breakage

A paperboard tray with channels holds round biscuits on edge, like coins in a roll. Each channel takes one row, so nothing slides into its neighbor when the box is carried.

For shortbread fingers, a flat divider between layers works better. It spreads the weight so the bottom layer does not snap under the top one.

We cover tray and divider options in more depth on our page about cookie boxes with fitted inserts, and the same builds apply to biscuits.

Tell us the biscuit shape and thickness and we draw the channels to suit. Your proof shows the insert layout alongside the outer box.

Keeping butter biscuits looking clean

Shortbread is rich in butter, and butter marks bare paperboard over time. Gloss or matte lamination on the inside face helps resist those spots.

Some bakers place biscuits in a clear inner bag first, then into the printed box. That keeps crumbs off the tray and adds a layer between the biscuits and the air.

Food-contact grade materials are available on request. Tell us how the biscuits will touch the packaging and we will suggest a build that fits.

If you want that inner layer, our clear cellophane bags with twist ties are sized to slip inside a biscuit tray. Ask us to match the bag width to the box when you quote both.

Many biscuit brands want the feel of a classic tin without the weight or cost of metal. A full wrap print on a two-piece lid box gets surprisingly close.

Foil stamping on the brand name and a patterned border read well on a crowded shelf. Embossing works on lids, where hands touch the box most.

Keep the base simple so it prints cleanly and leaves room for labels. These are the layouts we print most often for biscuit brands.

  • Repeating pattern on the lid, plain color on the base
  • Flavor name foil stamped on the side panel
  • Ingredients and allergen panel printed on the base
  • White ink on kraft for a plain farmhouse look
  • Spot UV on a crest or logo only

Biscuit boxes for tea rooms and gift sets

Tea rooms often sell a small box of six to take home after service. A tuck end box with a window suits this and stacks neatly behind the counter.

For gift sets, a rigid box with a lift-off lid feels worth keeping. People reuse them for buttons, letters and spare tea bags long after the biscuits are gone.

Corporate buyers often want a logo on the lid and a short message inside it. We can print the inside of the lid too, so the note appears as soon as the box opens.

Seasonal buyers can browse our holiday and occasion box collection for themed print ideas and gift sizes.

Shipping biscuits by mail

Biscuits survive the post better than soft cookies, but rows still shift when a parcel is dropped. A snug tray matters more than thick board.

For mail orders, put the printed biscuit box inside a corrugated mailer with a little padding. Our guide to shipping cookies without breakage walks through the packing order step by step.

We ship your finished boxes flat to save space, and shipping is free to the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Mistakes we help biscuit sellers avoid

The first is ordering a deep box for a thin product. Biscuits rattle in spare height, so we trim the depth to the stack plus a few millimeters.

The second is putting a large window over plain biscuits. Pale shortbread can look flat through film, so a small window or none at all often sells better.

The third is skipping the base print. Buyers turn biscuit boxes over to read flavors and allergens, so that panel deserves as much care as the lid.

The last is guessing the count. Pack a real box by hand before you order, then tell us the exact number that fits comfortably.

One more is forgetting the sleeve. On a sleeve and tray box, the sleeve must be a touch looser than the tray, or it will not slide off easily once biscuits are inside.

From artwork to finished boxes

Send a logo, a full design, or just a rough idea on paper. Our team builds the layout on your exact dieline at no charge.

You get a digital proof and can ask for changes as many times as you need. Production takes 4 to 6 business days after you approve it, then 2 to 3 days in transit.

If you want to sketch the layout yourself first, start on the design your packaging page and upload your files there.

Pricing and what changes it

Biscuit boxes start from $0.30 per unit. Your final price depends on size, board, quantity and finish.

Inserts and rigid board add the most cost, while a single tuck end box keeps it low. Every detail is confirmed in writing in your quote before you pay.

Biscuit Boxes: questions

Is a biscuit box different from a cookie box?

The build is similar, but biscuit boxes are usually shallower with tighter trays. Biscuits are thinner and more brittle, so the fit has to be closer.

Can you make a tray that holds round biscuits on edge?

Yes. We make paperboard trays with channels so each row stands upright and cannot slide.

What board do you suggest for shortbread?

Most shortbread boxes use 18 to 24 pt SBS paperboard. Heavier gift sets move up to rigid board.

Will butter stain the box?

Butter can mark bare board over time. Lamination on the inside face or a clear inner bag helps prevent it.

Can I get a window on a biscuit box?

Yes, we add PET window film in the shape you choose. It works best when the top layer is iced or decorated.

Do you print allergen and ingredient panels?

Yes. Send us the text and we place it on the base or side panel in your proof.

Can the box look like a classic biscuit tin?

A two-piece lid box with a full wrap print and foil gets close to that look. It is lighter and easier to ship.

How do I give you the right size?

Measure cooled biscuits, not the cutter, and tell us how many go in each box. We work out the inside size from that.

Do you make mixed assortment boxes?

Yes. We add dividers so each biscuit type sits in its own section.

How long does production take?

Production takes 4 to 6 business days after you approve the proof. Shipping takes another 2 to 3 business days.

Do biscuit boxes arrive assembled?

They ship flat to save space and cost, and tuck end and tray styles fold in seconds. Rigid gift boxes arrive set up because the board cannot fold.

What if a batch of biscuit boxes arrives crushed?

Tell us within 10 days with a photo of the damaged cartons. We reprint or refund the affected boxes.
